Re: problem with Mastercarver tool I have had one problem with the 1/4" Mastercarver hand set, which is if you don't watch where you place your fingers while you are carving you will get a very bad burn from the chuck teath, (there is a cut out for the chuck key to fit right where you place your fingers) this has happened twice!!

The Flexcut has a liner lock while the Mastercarver has a lockback design. I have found a lockback to be more secure than a liner lock, although it probably doesn't matter since I don't plan on using a lot of force whittling. You can then reshape the tool, like making a back bent spoon. Then, you have to harden, and retemper the tool so it can be used.
